Bridges Condition Assessment of Various NLEX Bridges

The North Luzon Expressway Corporation (NLEX Corporation), the current concessionaire of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), engaged the services of Philkoei International, Inc. to provide expertise in undertaking the Bridge Condition Assessment of various bridges along NLEX.
The Bridge Condition Assessment is completed in twenty (20) calendar weeks, from December 2022 to April 2023. The target bridges in the project were divided into three priorities. Priority 1 is composed of nine bridges with observed severe defects necessitating assessment and recommendations. Priority 2 is composed of two bridges belonging to Segment 1 of the NLEX alignment that are without severe defects but warrant assessment due to age (57 years). Priority 3 is composed of 15 bridges belonging to Segment 2 and 3 of NLEX alignment that are without severe defects but warrant assessment due to age (39-47 years).
Part of the project’s objectives is to gather photographs of the existing conditions of different parts of the structure as well as other related features affecting the bridges. A Bridge Condition Performance Indicator for all bridges showing the evaluation of the current overall state of the bridge is also prepared by PKII. Various recommendations, such as repairs and different retrofit schemes, are provided to NLEX Corporation. The Bridge Condition Assessment is completed in twenty (20) calendar weeks, from December 2022 to April 2023.
